I've been here for a decade!

I made this account ten years ago during the Cricket World Cup 2015, to keep up with cricket updates and follow my favourite players. And I’ve regularly used it for a number of things. My way of using this social tool has changed a lot since then.

Twitter was a good place back in the day, already famously known for being a battleground of opinions and its trolls, but still decent and less sensational. Cuss words, hate, and racism have been normalised ever since monetisation based on impressions took over.

I don’t use or post a lot, but now I don’t like using this app anymore. Words have lost their meaning, and people like using big, harsh words to make their point, which completely contrasts with the traits of a true and deep thinker. Now I avoid the "For you" page, which literally promotes negative stuff, and I mostly consume from my Lists and some lovely people I follow.

The internet and world have evolved in the last ten years, and Twitter reflects that vibe shift. It is not going to get any better, as hate and sensation are what get you clicks and views. The key still remains to think for yourself and not indulge in algorithmic complacency. More on that in my first blog.

The feather rufflers and hype mongers will keep increasing and try to affect you, but the key remains to think for yourself and try to make this app and this world a better place. Think deep, stay calm, and be less sensational. Empathy is what we need.
